Hello there. Welcome to the Unit Glossary. The aim of this project is to create a mini unit review for each available unit in the game, highlighting the pros and cons of each unit and where they would best fit. I will keep the reviews as minimal as possible and will not be mentioning specific stats. Please do wait a bit as I fill up the threads. I will continue to maintain this thread as new units come. Before we begin, let's have some short disclaimers.

HOW DID WE DEFINE OUR SQUISHY AND TANKY?
Generally, for the current meta, a certain stat is deemed usable if it hits a certain amount before spheres are used. For more details, see below

    :fire: FIRE
    Overview

Fire element has mostly offensive units with offensive BBs until of very recent in JP BF. Fire element features the most balanced stats among all the elements. Its starter Vargas has the most balanced stats of the 4 starters and its best selling Guardian, Farlon, is the best example of how Alim has designed fire elementals as the template element.

Fire is also a very versatile element, especially as of late. You can build a mono fire team with a healer, a defense buffer, a sparker, an attack buff, and a damage mitigator. No other element is capable of pulling off this kind of threat, except perhaps light which one ups it by adding status immunity to its buff. One cannot go wrong with Fire element with a dozen of choices for attacking / supporting.

Top Units: Cayena, Lancia, Michele, Farlon, Dia, Luther, Dalvanshel

    :water: WATER
    Overview

Water element is a mixed bag. Often it values offense over defense in its units' status (prime examples: Mega, Signas, Rickel, Reeze), but makes up for it by throwing lots of heal (over time) SBBs among its other units (Tiara, Selena, and Dean has burst heal SBB) and Def buff / mitigation (Elimo, Tesla). And balance is rarely seen in Water units. If it's not too high offense with middling defense (Mega, Rickel, Signas), the unit will have a high defense and very small offense (Tiara, Tesla). Eventually, water element has been synonymous to support / defense as that's what their best units do.

Building a water mono team before means Felneus and 4 Serins, which can still work for some content, but with Douglas taking over the reins, this setup has been mostly left to the arena. Nowadays, water mono becomes increasingly rare as there are a ton of good options outside of the water element. Not that water is bad per se, but excellent water units work better with units outside of its element group.

Top Units: Serin, Karl, Felneus, Elimo, Oulu, Raydn, Phee

    :earth: EARTH
Like in most games, Earth is the element that boasts tankiness over offensive power (Edea, Golem, Zelban) with buffs that improve on your team's defense. Earth is notorious for being the element with mostly meh units that some people would finish up to Encervis, not bothering with an Earth unit. It's either an Earth unit will be massively tanky, but would take forever to fill up its BB gauge (Golem, Darvan) and just overall poor hitcount (Dilma, Twins 5*) or just plain useless in terms of offensive power (Zelban, Douglas 5* and below).

Luckily for Earth, it has birthed new stars in Douglas, Dilma, Luly, Ophelia, and to some extent Edea (she has dmg mitigation on top of useful poison), as well as the Arena lead favorite Lugina. Old time favorites like Eltri and Douglas however are slowly losing usefulness as new units are made that do their jobs better.

Top Units: Douglas, Ophelia, Zelnite, Eltri, Lugina, Zelnite, Faris

    :thunder: THUNDER
Ah, Thunder. Everyone has had a mono thunder once. Or a Dancer May. And how Amy was once very famous for being the Karl-killer. Of all the elements, I can say that it is thunder that was blessed with great units, but ultimately lacks that one exceptional unit to make thunder the exceptional element it can be. It is blessed with units with great stats (Amy, Loch, Rashil, Rina, Grybe) and yet they all lack the great animation / hitcount / great utility that other elements have. They show considerable hitting power but none of them has good utility outside of dealing paralysis / injury debuff (save for Elsel). Not even Lodin was useful as a utility unit per se.

With Elsel's introduction, Thunder has now that unit that provides great utility. And with the new Lodin, thunder has been looking up. Uda and Exyl are both new units that together can form a thunder mono BB spam team that can prevent itself from catching status ailments.

Top Units: Amy, Ronel, Lodin, Rashil, Uda, Exyl

    :light: LIGHT
Until very recently, Light is considered as the weakest element with only Sefia and Atro as its usable unit, and Lilith to some extent (but because of her STBB, she's not as noted). Heck, not even their Battle Maiden was usable (Vanila can only support as status spreader via her random BB)! Then they get Lubradine and poor thing doesn't do damage on his BB. Light units were generally noted for support (Lubradine, Melchio) and if they do hit stuff, they are hard to recover their health (Heidt, Sefia, Will, Aem). It's only recently upon the release of the 12 guardians did they get usable options in Alut. And then things got so so much better.

Melchio, Selha, and Lubradine all become necessary units that synchronize very well with each other and the newest Trial Unit, Maxwell. With this formidable formation, Light seems like it's the strongest unit in the current meta.

Top Units: Tilith, Maxwell, Sefia, Melchio, Lilith, Leorone, Alyut, Zellha

    :dark: DARK
Dark, the once powerhouse element that has it all. But slowly, mono dark has fallen from grace, largely thanks to the bad new units it has been receiving, while other elements get better. Dark has been the home of almost all the hard hitting units known to the game: Kikuri, Magress, Lunaris, Alice, Logan, and even Mifune. And it also gets the first fast-filling BB unit in Lira, which went unresisted until the introduction of Grahdens. No, there's no stopping the darkness.

Most dark units are acquainted with cursing on top of their hard-hitting BB and it's the only element in the game that has no dedicated healer. Yes, they are powerful and they can take hits, but as the game slowly evolved to require that you also survive the hits dished to you, dark lost its potency due to its lack of utility to reduce damage or heal its allies. The last two releases have also been unkind to dark as their dark mage Eric does random attack SBB, while Kajah does massive AOE, paired with an LS that no one wants to risk using. And even with the Sphere Heroes' release, it appears that Lily Mata is easily outclassed by Zelnite. However, Dark has gotten a new toy with Hell Goddess Elsa, Alice's sister, which has Felneus's leader skill and Douglas's hitcount. It would be interesting to see how this helps dark regain its prominence.

Top Units: Zebra, Mare, Grahdens, Kikuri, Logan, Lunaris, Zephyr, Elza

Oooh best of luck! I'm working on tiering list within the element with some people, these two guides combined should provide excellent references for people.

The tiering list is a great idea, but didn't Iskander or someone else did that? It's gonna a bit harder to maintain as the meta moves every month. Best of luck! I'm pretty excited for that.

Pretty good so far, only things I have to say is Lava is amazing against Lance's Hero Vortex due to her ignore DEF working against his DEF buff and Grah being a good unit in mono dark teams.

Thanks, Priya. Will add those up soonest. Haven't really used Grah in a mono dark team, though surprisingly, I apparently have made a mono dark team by raising individual dark units O___O.
